Higher Learning

What started off as a response to a comment, I decided to make it an official post.

My university experience has been somewhat...fragmented. I was in Carleton for 2 years doing Computer Science/Business/Mass Communications, and then I left to do Theatre at Ottawa U, but the theatre program at that school was crap. So now I'm at Algonquin College doing the Internet Application Programmer program. I still find post-secondary education to be very boring and mundane. It's just been difficult for me to stay interested in one thing. I'm a bit of an adventurer, a dreamer, slightly eccentric, a perfectionist, and little bit obsessive-compulsive at times (although I like to think of it as an acute attention to detail :)). I feel like a nomad going from one thing to another. I don't know if it's anything wrong with me, but it's been quite a problem in the last couple of years, since the tuition dollars have been racking up.

It has nothing to do with the programs I'm taking. At least I don't think so. Truthfully, I didn't mind Computer Science, I LOVED mass communications, of course Theatre and acting is one my passions, and I consider myself quite knowledgable in internet applications already, and I do like that stuff. So it's not the programs that I'm taking. I know what I like. I'm not the typical "lost" student trying to "figure out who I am". I know exactly who I am.

I think maybe the problem is that I have such a passion for everything, and that it's hard for me to focus on ONE thing and one thing only. Today it's photography, tomorrow it's media studies, yesterday it was internet programming, next week it'll be business, and next year it'll be history. I can't single anything out, and what frustrates me is people who tell me "Just pick one and stick with it." Yes of course, they're right....but maybe that's why institutional educational doesn't work for somebody like me.

Wow! That is a lot of changing. You've now gone to every major school in the city! I remember when I once ran into you I think at the library at Carleton and you told me you had switched from Computer Science to Business. I had thought after that how I had never seen you walking around, or in the tunnels, were you at Carleton anymore? Well this answers that! What made you give up the theatre program?

Yeah...I know. The best school out of the 3 is Carleton and the worse was Ottawa U. At least I can say that! lol

But I started off the post, responding to your last comment. Your program sounds really interesting! I've never heard of anybody studying what you're studying right now.

Thats what I hear. I have a friend who switched from Carleton to the 'gonq and he did enjoy it. But his was a drastic change from Polisci at Carleton to Radio. So far I haven't heard of ANYONE who has really enjoyed their time at Ottawa U. I'm not sure what its about at that school but it breeds bad memories!

I assumed the post must have been in response to me. I hope you were able to see the profile, the site was just started last week so there are some bugs. I took the picture about a month ago when I was at Wainright, Alberta where they are building a giant tactical training centre. We didn't get to see it because its not done till next year. The picture is trimmed of me kneeling on a Leopard I tank. I also got to see some other vechiles and drive in a Bison! The Bison was going about 70 km/h in about 5C weather, going over some jumps, pits, trenches, through some trees, scaring cows :) Lots of fun!

Its the bad time of year now though, papers. Blah.
